USING YOUR SERVER-BASED ANTI-SPAM OPTION

If you have signed up for our anti-spam option, you have three main ways to put it to use.

First, you can log in to www.johnsonservices.com/mail and set a filter on your mailbox to handle your spam. After you log in with your e-mail address and password, click on Options --> Filters --> Add New Filter. Provide a name for your filter (such as "Reject Spam with Score of 9 or more") and be sure to check the "Enable filter" option. Click the option to filter messages where all of the following rules apply. From the drop down selection list, select "<Spam Score>:" and "is greater than or equal to" and enter a "9" in the following box. For the "Action" choose to "reject" or "delete" the message. Then click to "update" the filter.

Note that following this process, any e-mails scored with a 9 or 10 will not be received. If you find you are not getting the e-mails you should, change the 9 to a 10. (Spam scores range from a 1, where the message is almost surely not spam, to a 10 where it's almost definite that it is spam).

Second, you can contact us to set a rejection level for all of the e-mail addresses at your domain level. This may be more convenient than setting it on an individual mailbox level. If you find the setting is too low (that is, you're missing some important e-mails because they have been rejected) or too high (and you're still getting too much spam), just e-mail us and we can raise or lower it another notch for you.

Third, if you are using a business-class e-mail program, such as Outlook (not Outlook Express), you can set rules inside of your e-mail program that can read the x-spam-score from the message header. Using that spam score, you can move messages to a "junk mail folder" or a "review" folder depending on the score. For example, I move all e-mails with a 9 or 10 to the junk mail folder and those with a 6, 7, or 8 to a "review" folder. This keeps the valid e-mail in my inbox uncluttered from spam and allows me to more quickly review the rest of the e-mails to determine what should be kept or deleted.

Note that Johnson Services does not include support for setting up your e-mail program as a part of its service. If it is a program with which we are familiar, we may be able to assist you with the process, however, standard support charges will apply. If you need assistance, you may complete a service request.
